Game Drives at the Park

Lake Mburo National Park located in the Western Part of Uganda offers remarkable safari experiences to all travelers on holiday vacation as travelers get a chance to explore and watch the BIG FIVE wildlife animals as well as others wandering around their natural vegetation habitat.

Game Drives at Lake Mburo National Park are special as the park is the smallest Savannah Park in Uganda with rich diversity of wildlife animals and habitats which range from open grasslands, acacia woodlands to wetland lakeshores. While on Game Drive in the Park, you shall view various animal species as you traverse from one point to another taking many photos to keep.

While on Game Drive in the Park, you watch wildlife animals like Zebras, impalas, topi, elands, giraffes, buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi, reedbucks, warthogs, Leopards, hyenas, bush babies, civets, genets, porcupines. Other than wildlife, you shall watch various bird species i.e 300 species recorded as you transfer from one point in the park to the next taking various photos to keep.

The Game Drives in the Park are conducted in 4×4 wheel vehicles in company of park rangers who go informing you about the Park and various wildlife animals which inhabit the stunning vegetation.

Types of Game Drives

Game Drives in the Park are allocated into various sessions and are chosen according to the preferences of the travelers in regard to what they prefer to enjoy. These are;

1. Morning Game Drives

Morning Game Drives usually start around 6:00–6:30 am when temperatures are cool and many animals are active.

They start early morning before the sun rises and offer you views of predators hunting prey before the Day begins.

The Game Drive takes a period of 2 to 4 hours offering excellent photography as you watch herbivores like impalas, zebras, topis and elands.

2. Afternoon (Golden Hour) Drives

There are afternoon Game Drives which are the most popular and they take place from 3:00–5:00 pm offering remarkable views of various wildlife animals wandering around their natural vegetation habitat as well as along Lake Mburo to break thirst.

These Game Drives are ideal for photography as you take clear photos of various wildlife animas wandering around their natural habitat. The wildlife animals you watch include; zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, leopards, topi, bushbucks, hyenas, jackals etc.

3. Night Game Drives (Unique to Lake Mburo)

Lake Mburo National Park offers night Game Drives that are not found anywhere else in the parks in Uganda.

These Game Drives begin around 6:30 to 7:00 pm for 2 to 3 hours and offer you sightings of nocturnal wildlife species like Leopards, Hyenas, Bush babies and other primates, Porcupines, genets, civets. You shall also watch hippos along the lakeshores after dark.

Game Tracks and Wildlife Hotspots

Lake Mburo National Park comprises of a network of tracks that take you through varied terrain landscapes offering you chances to watch many wildlife animals wander around their natural vegetation habitat.

Zebra Track which is known to have various Burchell’s zebras traversing from one point to another.

Kazuma Track which leads uphill to scenic views hence excellent for photography and animals grazing lower down.

Kigambira Loop which takes you through woodlands and thickets and is ideal for viewing bushbucks and smaller antelopes.

Lakeside Track which is situated water bodies where hippos, waterbucks and birdlife gather.

Ruroko Track which takes you through the rocky outcrops with occasional klipspringer views.

Best Time for Game Drives in Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is known to offer Game Viewing adventures all year-round although the dry season in the months of June–September and December–February are the best times to watch the various wildlife animals in their natural habitat. This period is ideal as the animals are fond of aggregating around the water sources making views clearer and easier.
