Attractions to See at the Park

Here are the main things to see at Lake Mburo National Park, presented clearly and simply. The park is small but very rich in wildlife, scenery, and birdlife.

Wildlife to See

Lake Mburo is especially known for plains animals that are easy to spot:

Zebras – the most common and iconic animals in the park

Impalas – Lake Mburo is the only park in Uganda where they occur

Elands – Africa’s largest antelope

Buffaloes – often seen grazing or near water

Topi – fast-running antelopes found in open grasslands

Waterbucks – usually near lakes and wetlands

Bushbucks and duikers – smaller antelopes, often shy

Warthogs – common along roads and grasslands

Predators & Nocturnal Animals

Leopards – present but mostly seen at night

Spotted hyenas – often heard at night

Side-striped jackals

Lake Mburo is one of Uganda’s best birding parks, especially for savannah and wetland birds.

Crested crane (Uganda’s national bird)

African finfoot (rare and special)

Shoebill (occasionally in nearby wetlands)

Black-bellied bustard

Pelicans, herons, egrets, and cormorants
